Police Unlock 'Doctor' Jo Joo-bin's Mobile Phone... Is Pandora's Box Opening?

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The police have unlocked the password on the cellphone of Jo Joo-bin (24), who was arrested and indicted for producing and distributing sexual exploitation materials through the Telegram 'Baksa Bang,' and are investigating additional crimes. So far, more than 500 people have been arrested for digital sex crimes, including the 'Nth Room' case, and 223 others have been caught for simply possessing illegal obscene materials.
On the 15th, the National Police Agency announced that they had unlocked the password on the Galaxy S9 smartphone found during a search of Jo's residence in March. When Jo was arrested, he had hidden the Galaxy S9 in the sofa at his home and had set the password to be more than 20 characters long, refusing to disclose it during police questioning. The police believed these two phones were used in the crimes and focused all efforts on unlocking them to secure evidence. A police official stated, "We used forensic techniques and equipment to unlock the phone password," adding, "The responsible investigators will verify the contents through proper legal procedures."
On March 25, the police launched the 'Digital Sex Crime Special Investigation Headquarters,' and as of today, they have arrested 536 people involved in digital sex crimes, with 77 of them detained. Among those arrested, 130 were involved in producing and operating illegal obscene materials such as sexual exploitation content, and 172 were distributors. Additionally, 223 were caught for possessing illegal obscene materials. The largest group was people in their 20s, with 218 arrests (35 detained), followed by 173 in their teens (21 detained) and 102 in their 30s (15 detained). There were also 33 in their 40s (5 detained) and 10 aged 50 or older (1 detained).
Victims of digital sex crimes are also emerging rapidly. So far, there have been 291 victims, with teenagers accounting for 173 (59%), far exceeding half of the victims. The younger the age group, the greater the damage, with 84 in their 20s, 23 in their 30s, and 6 in their 40s.

Meanwhile, the police have detained Moon Hyung-wook (24), known as 'GodGod,' the operator of the Telegram sexual exploitation group 'Nth Room,' and are investigating additional crimes. GodGod confessed that there were 50 victims of sexual exploitation caused by him, and 10 of these victims have been confirmed. A police official said, "Only active reporting by victims can eradicate digital sex crimes," and urged, "Since there is an anonymity support system in place to protect victims, please do not hesitate and actively report if you have been victimized."
