IA Networks Supplies QRNG Module for 'Galaxy A Quantum'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] IA Networks, a company specializing in image sensor packaging, announced that it will supply the ultra-compact ‘QRNG’ (Quantum Random Number Generator) module, a core component of quantum cryptography security, to SK Telecom’s exclusive 5th generation mobile communication (5G) smartphone ‘Galaxy A Quantum’.
The Galaxy A Quantum is the world’s first smartphone equipped with a QRNG. SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics plan to launch the Galaxy A Quantum on the 22nd, enhancing security by installing the QRNG for the first time in a smartphone. The QRNG was jointly developed with IDQ (ID Quantique), the world’s number one quantum cryptography communication company and a subsidiary of SK Telecom.
The core technology applied to the Galaxy A Quantum, QRNG, generates highly secure random numbers by utilizing the randomness of quantum mechanics. It is known to create an encryption system that generates irregular number patterns using quantum properties to block external hacking.
IA Networks holds the patent for the ‘NeoPAC 3D Shrink module,’ a technology that can package the QRNG chip, a core component of quantum cryptography security, into an ultra-compact size. This is the result of focusing on developing a small module design suitable for communication security encryption sensors over the past three years. Through this, the size of the QRNG chip was drastically reduced from the size of a matchbox to ‘2.5mm X 2.5mm X 0.8mm,’ smaller than a thumbnail. Earlier this year, they also completed technical verification for mass production products for mobile use with IDQ.
An IA Networks official said, “This smartphone component supply is the first fruit of independent technology obtained through years of research and development and collaboration with IDQ,” adding, “Since the rapidly growing quantum cryptography security market has high technical entry barriers, IA Networks expects to preemptively capture the market.”

He continued, “With the launch of the Galaxy A Quantum as an opportunity, we plan to seek sales diversification not only in the mobile sector but also in network equipment, Internet of Things (IoT), and autonomous vehicle markets through collaboration with SK Telecom. Therefore, the QRNG business is expected to grow into a core business division of IA Networks.”
