Extension of Health Insurance Long-Term Care Advance Payment Support Period by One Month Until the End of June
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The National Health Insurance Service announced on the 14th that it has decided to extend the support period for the advance payment system, which is being implemented to assist medical institutions struggling financially due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), by one month from the original end of this month to the end of next month.
The support targets medical institutions nationwide and can be applied for at the NHIS headquarters or regional offices. Medical institutions that have already submitted applications can receive additional support until next month. The support amount will be the average monthly amount of medical care benefits paid over the three months from March to May last year, and the payment for June will also be made in a lump sum within this month.
Medical institutions in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, infectious disease control institutions, institutions where confirmed patients have occurred or been treated, and institutions temporarily closed due to visits by COVID-19 patients will receive 100% of the average monthly medical care benefits from March to May last year, while other medical institutions will receive 90%. The payment criteria remain the same as before: the amount applied for minus the medical care benefits claimed for the current month will be paid, and if there are additional claims for medical care benefits within the current month after the advance payment, the advance payment amount will be offset first, and only the remaining balance will be paid. The repayment of medical care benefits will be evenly processed over six months from the second half of this year, deducted from the medical care benefits to be paid to the institutions.
