[Golf Topic] PGA Tour "400 COVID-19 Tests Conducted at Each Tournament"
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…'Approximately 400 tests per tournament.'
The U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour will conduct about 400 tests for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at each tournament resuming in June. According to ESPN on the 14th (Korean time), "According to a notice sent to players the day before, players, caddies, and other personnel participating in the tournament must undergo COVID-19 testing before the opening." Those attending the tournament will be tested at tour-designated accommodations, and results will be available within 48 hours.
Practice is allowed until the results are out. If a positive result is confirmed, the individual cannot participate in the tournament. Players who test positive after advancing to the main rounds cannot participate in the 3-round competition. Instead, they receive prize money corresponding to the lowest rank. The PGA Tour has decided not to disclose the names of players or personnel who test positive. In cases where a player tests positive, their identity will likely be protected under reasons such as withdrawal.

Daily health questionnaires and temperature checks will be conducted. The PGA Tour does not plan to automatically suspend tournaments even if COVID-19 cases emerge. Andy Levinson, Vice President of the PGA Tour, explained, "There is no set number of positive cases that will automatically halt a tournament," adding, "However, the decision to proceed will be made depending on the situation." The PGA Tour will resume on June 11 with the Charles Schwab Challenge after the first round of The Players Championship was suspended in March.
