Foreign Workers Test Positive for COVID-19 in Jeonnam
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The 17th confirmed case of 'COVID-19' has occurred in Jeonnam.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 13th, the confirmed case is a 36-year-old Bangladeshi male foreign worker who arrived in the country the day before.
After visiting his home country, he departed from DHAKA Airport and entered through Incheon International Airport, then arrived at Naju Station using the KTX overseas arrivals exclusive car at Gwangmyeong Station.
He showed no particular symptoms after arrival, and a specimen was collected immediately upon arrival at the Yeongam-gun screening clinic. The Jeonnam Health and Environment Research Institute confirmed a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
The confirmed patient has been transferred to the negative pressure room at Gangjin Medical Center and admitted for treatment.
So far, one contact has been identified: a company colleague who transported the confirmed patient from Naju Station to the company dormitory. Diagnostic testing is scheduled for the same day. Investigations are ongoing for KTX train and airplane passengers.
Among the total 17 confirmed cases in Jeonnam so far, 9 cases (53%) are overseas arrivals. Currently, 12 patients have been discharged after recovery, while 2 are receiving treatment at Suncheon Medical Center and 3 at Gangjin Medical Center.
Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, stated, "Due to the cluster outbreaks in the metropolitan area, there is a great concern about community spread. We have issued administrative orders to ban gatherings at entertainment facilities, conduct diagnostic testing, and prohibit interpersonal contact to block inflow into the province, and we will thoroughly monitor compliance."

He added, "Residents are urged to refrain from going out if they have fever or respiratory symptoms, report to health centers, avoid visiting facilities where many people gather and have close contact, and strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks."
