Gyeonggi-do to Adjust Maximum Capacity of Volume-Based Waste Bags to 75ℓ
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is pushing to reduce the maximum capacity of volume-based waste bags from the current 100ℓ to 75ℓ to improve the working environment of sanitation workers.
Some local governments in the province, such as Bucheon, Seongnam, and Yongin, have already lowered the maximum capacity of volume-based waste bags to 75ℓ, but most local governments still use the existing 100ℓ bags.
On the 12th, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 13th that it will hold a "Province-City/County Meeting" divided into four regions?Southern region starting on the 12th, Northern region (14th), Eastern region (19th), and Western region (22nd)?with heads of city and county cleaning departments and sanitation workers from each region participating.
This meeting was organized to review measures to reduce the maximum capacity of volume-based waste bags, as compressing the current 100ℓ bags can weigh up to 45kg, raising concerns about physical injuries and safety accidents among sanitation workers.
At the Southern region meeting held on the 12th, cases from four cities?Yongin, Seongnam, Bucheon, and Uijeongbu?that have already lowered the maximum capacity of volume-based waste bags from 100ℓ to 75ℓ were shared, and measures to improve the safety and working conditions of sanitation workers were discussed.
Im Yang-seon, Director of the Resource Circulation Division of the province, said, "The issue of lowering the maximum capacity of volume-based waste bags has been continuously raised to prevent injuries to sanitation workers. We will do our best to improve the working environment and prevent safety accidents by adjusting the bag capacity in as many cities and counties in the province as possible."
Since the inauguration of Governor Lee Jae-myung in the 7th term of local government, Gyeonggi Province has introduced various policies to improve the working environment of field workers such as sanitation workers.
