Kang Hyung-wook "Large Dogs Should Be Raised Indoors... Difficult to Defend Against Large Dog Attacks"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Dog trainer Kang Hyung-wook (35) emphasized regarding the incident where actor Kim Min-kyo's (36) dog attacked an elderly man in his 80s, saying, "Large dogs should also be raised indoors. Otherwise, it is meaningless."
On the 11th, Kang Hyung-wook said in an interview with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show', "First of all, Mr. Kim Min-kyo tried to train his dog, so it is very unfortunate. It is said that the dogs attacked a grandmother who was clearing grass about 20 to 30 meters away, and I think they might have mistaken her for a small animal and acted this way," he said.
He explained, "If we are going to raise what we call fierce dogs, or dogs that are a bit sensitive, if we are going to keep those friends as pets, we must raise them indoors and always live our lives with them. Some large dogs mistake the running figure of preschool children for rabbits or deer. There are even large dogs that perceive adult men who fall while running, even when right in front of them, as other animals," he explained.
Regarding how to defend against large dogs, Kang Hyung-wook said, "Usually, there is no way," adding, "The best way for ordinary people to respond to an aggressive dog is to do nothing and lie down."
He continued, "Running away can stimulate a large dog much more," and said, "That sends a very strong signal to chase. The only methods are to lie down quietly, cover your neck with both hands while lying down, or lean against a wall."
Kang Hyung-wook argued that large dogs also need to be raised indoors.
He said, "I hope dogs are not raised outside. I hope all dogs are raised indoors," adding, "They rest together inside the house and then go out to the yard to play. No matter how big the mansion is, even if the yard is over 1,000 pyeong, living together indoors and then going out to the yard to play, run, and rest is much happier. Living only in the yard is the life dogs hate the most," he emphasized.

He added, "I want to say this very strongly. When it comes to dogs raised outside, I first hesitate to train them," and said, "All dogs can be raised (indoors). If you cannot raise them indoors, then you should not raise them. That way, you can always recognize, check, and monitor the condition of your pet dog," he added.
