Support Worker Who Beat and Killed Person with Intellectual Disability Sent to Prosecution
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A 30-year-old disability care worker who brutally beat a person with an intellectual disability residing in a welfare facility for the disabled to death has been sent to the prosecution.
The Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that they have arrested and sent to the prosecution A (34), a Chinese national disability care worker, on charges including injury resulting in death.
A is accused of repeatedly hitting the head of B (37), a person with an intellectual disability, with hands and feet at a welfare facility for the disabled in Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek City, around 6:10 a.m. on March 8.
B, who suffered severe head injuries, was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment but died on March 19, 11 days later.
The police, upon conducting an autopsy on B, found skull fractures and investigated the facility staff, confirming A's assault.
According to the police investigation, A committed the crime because B, who had physical and intellectual disabilities, was crying and showing irritation.
