Singer Kim Gun-mo Withdraws Defamation Lawsuit Against Woman Claiming Assault Victim Status
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Singer Kim Gun-mo (52) filed and then withdrew a defamation lawsuit under the Information and Communications Network Act against Mr. A, who claimed to have been assaulted by him.
On the 11th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that Kim submitted a withdrawal of the lawsuit at the end of last month. Accordingly, the police forwarded the case to the prosecution on the 7th with the opinion of 'no prosecution.' The reason why Kim withdrew the lawsuit has not been disclosed.
In December of last year, Mr. A, who appeared on the YouTube channel "Garosero Research Institute" operated by lawyer Kang Yong-seok and others, claimed that he was punched multiple times by Kim at a nightclub in 2007. In January, Kim filed a defamation lawsuit against Mr. A under the Information and Communications Network Act.

Earlier, in March, the police applied sexual assault charges against Kim and sent the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment. The accuser, Mr. B, claimed that he was sexually assaulted by Kim at a pub in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in August 2016 and submitted a complaint to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in December of last year.
