Minsaeng Party: "President Moon's Speech Overshadowed by COVID-19 'Club Spread'"
"Thoroughness Needed to Prepare for Contingencies"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 10th, the Minsheng Party commented on President Moon Jae-in's special speech marking the 3rd anniversary of his inauguration, stating, "It appears to be a speech prepared with confidence in overcoming the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), but it feels overshadowed by the unexpected spread through clubs."
Lee Yeon-gi, spokesperson for the Minsheng Party, said in a statement that day, "Of course, I fully understand President Moon's confidence based on the verified quarantine system, the high-level capabilities and dedication of related public officials, and above all, the active cooperation of the people. However, all the more reason for meticulous preparation to anticipate any possible situation," adding, "Missing the clubs, which are spaces with optimal conditions for virus transmission, seems to be a sign of negligence."
The spokesperson said, "Regarding economic issues, the president expressed a fundamental stance of proactively responding based on expanded fiscal operations and the extension of employment insurance coverage to strengthen the social safety net, aiming to turn the crisis into an opportunity," and emphasized, "The government must do its best in advance preparations to avoid missing the appropriate timing for any support measures. In party-government consultations, I hope attention is paid to building cooperative infrastructure to lead the opposition party to timely participation."

He added, "It is evident that President Moon made efforts to convey a positive message. However, it is also true that our society still cannot escape backwardness, where 38 workers perish in a single fire incident, and the third generation of chaebols publicly pledges not to pursue 'fourth-generation succession,'" and said, "The people hope that President Moon's awareness of issues will be more fundamental and comprehensive. I urge governance that constantly reflects on the reality where, behind the dazzling quantitative growth, there remains qualitative sacrifice that the people inevitably bear."
