United Future Party: "President Moon's COVID-19 Crisis Response Disappointing... Like Urinating on Frozen Feet"
"Moon Administration Fails to Properly Recognize the Reality of Inter-Korean Relations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The United Future Party criticized President Moon Jae-in's special speech on the 3rd anniversary of his inauguration on the 10th, stating, "Even before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), our economy had already entered a crisis phase. There should have been an honest evaluation and reflection on this," and added, "The crisis response measures due to COVID-19 are also disappointing."
Kim Seong-won, spokesperson for the United Future Party, said in a commentary on the same day, "The 245 trillion won corporate measures and job budgets implemented by the Moon Jae-in administration have long since become tools for statistical distortion, and the continued supplementary budgets are nothing more than 'urinating on frozen feet,' unable to serve as long-term and fundamental measures."
He said, "I agree with preparing countermeasures for the post-COVID era. However, there are doubts about whether the direction mentioned by the president is correct," and pointed out, "In particular, there was no mention of the ongoing concerns about fiscal soundness related to the Korean-style New Deal for job creation and the national employment preparation system for the era of universal employment insurance."
He added, "The national employment support system is an issue that requires more in-depth discussion in the National Assembly, yet mentioning prompt processing and presenting guidelines is also inappropriate."
Spokesperson Kim said, "President Moon mentioned human security between South and North Korea without addressing the successive North Korean missile provocations and GP shooting provocations. In response to media questions, he also did not forget to mention South-North joint quarantine cooperation, South-North railway connection, peacebuilding in the Demilitarized Zone, and individual tourism," and criticized, "This is not only inconsistent with the purpose of today's speech but also reveals that the Moon Jae-in administration still lacks proper realistic recognition, at least in inter-Korean relations."
