Homeplus Launches 'Quarter Watermelon' Enjoyable Even for One Person
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Homeplus announced on the 10th that it has launched a 'Quarter Watermelon' cut into 1/4 size for 7,990 won, targeting 1-2 person households who want to enjoy watermelon more conveniently.
This is ideal for 1-2 person households who have been reluctant to purchase watermelon at large supermarkets due to its heavy weight and large quantity. It allows easy enjoyment of watermelon without worrying about weight during outings or camping. A disposable knife is also provided for convenient cutting and eating outdoors.
Concerns about hygiene for cut watermelon have also been addressed. The quarter watermelon is made from 7-8kg watermelons, 100% sugar-selected, harvested from major production areas such as Haman, Iksan, and Nonsan. Cutting and packaging are done in a HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certified facility, and freshness is maintained through a cold chain system before being displayed in stores. During packaging, the watermelon is placed in a dedicated container and sealed with compressed film. It is also safe for online orders.
In addition, Homeplus also offers 'Quick Watermelon' for 4,990 won, which is cut into cube shapes, sealed, and ready to eat immediately or enjoy as a fruit punch.

Jang Yonghee, a buyer from Homeplus Fruit Team, said, “Since the watermelons are packaged in a HACCP certified facility before being brought in, customers can enjoy watermelon more hygienically and conveniently. Considering the recent higher temperatures than usual, the launch of cut watermelon, which is usually released in June to July, has been moved up to May so that more customers can enjoy watermelon easily.”
