Yeongdeungpo-gu, Recruiting 18 Public Workers for COVID-19 Disinfection in Apartment Complexes
Priority Selection for Vulnerable Groups... Daily 4-Hour Disinfection and Cleaning of Shared Facilities Such as Entrances and Elevators in 186 Apartment Complexes
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has launched an initiative to tackle both ‘quarantine’ and ‘economy’ by preventing the spread of COVID-19 and creating job measures for vulnerable groups.
The ‘Apartment COVID-19 Prevention and Quarantine Job Project,’ which began on April 27, is exactly that. While regularly conducting disinfection to block community transmission, the project aims to support economic activities of residents who lost part-time jobs due to COVID-19 and small business owners struggling with decreased sales.
The district created public jobs to disinfect and clean common facilities such as entrances and elevators, which are used by many residents, daily and regularly at 186 apartment complexes in the area. From April 14 to 21, public job participants were recruited, and a total of 18 residents aged 18 or older were finally selected and deployed to the field starting April 27.
In line with the project’s purpose of supporting jobs for vulnerable groups affected by COVID-19, additional points were given to residents who lost part-time jobs due to COVID-19 and families of small business owners suffering from decreased sales.
The hired workers are divided into nine zones covering 186 apartment complexes in the area and work in pairs to conduct disinfection and cleaning for four hours a day. The work schedule is five days a week, and they will work for a total of three months until June 28. The wage is 10,520 KRW per hour, with a daily wage of 42,000 KRW (4 hours), and parking and monthly leave allowances are also provided.
In March, the district also took proactive measures to protect the health and safety of local residents by placing 4,200 hand sanitizers in apartment elevators and attaching antibacterial films, which are highly effective in preventing COVID-19 infection.
