Stopped by a cafe, took a walk... Quarantine violator wore a safety band after being reported by residents (Update)
Since the 27th of last month, the safety band applied to those who leave self-quarantine without permission
[Asia Economy Reporters Choi Dae-yeol and Jo Hyun-ui] Two individuals wearing safety bands after leaving self-quarantine have been reported. A safety band is a bracelet-type device given to those designated as self-quarantine subjects due to concerns of infection, such as patients who have been in contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases or recent arrivals from overseas, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). It is worn by those who have left their quarantine location.
On the 6th briefing, Park Jong-hyun, Public Relations Manager of the Pan-Government Countermeasure Support Headquarters, stated, "One person left their quarantine location in Daegu and visited a nearby coffee shop, where they were caught after a report from an acquaintance. The other person left their quarantine location in Busan and was caught after taking a walk near a local middle school following a report from a resident."
Both individuals wore the safety bands the previous afternoon. According to Park, the Daegu individual initially refused to wear the safety band when first caught but changed their mind to wear it the next day when officials came to enforce facility quarantine. Those designated as self-quarantine subjects must isolate for two weeks and are managed through a dedicated application or local government officials.
If a self-quarantine subject violates quarantine rules such as unauthorized departure, penalties including fines are enforced. However, wearing the band requires the individual's consent. If they do not consent, they must enter a facility that costs about 100,000 KRW per day. The safety band cannot be removed by the wearer, and if it is separated from the smartphone by a certain distance, an alert is immediately sent to the managing official. This measure is to prevent individuals from leaving their smartphones behind when going out.
