On the 5th (local time), Johns Hopkins University stated in a press release that while it is true that the university's research team included such content in a report submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it was provided in the form of various scenarios to be referenced during the process of easing economic sanctions and restrictions in each state. They added, "These preliminary results are not predictions and are not accurate enough to be used as forecasts."
Johns Hopkins University explained, "This report shows various scenarios in which the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in the United States could increase significantly, including the early relaxation of social distancing."
President Trump also pointed out on the same day that the report assumed a scenario where no measures were taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
