Recruitment Scale Increased from Last Year, Competition Rate Decreases
Examinee Conduct Guidelines to Be Announced
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 6th that the competition rate for this year's Grade 9 local government new recruitment exam was 17.7 to 1.
According to the Office of Education, 9,411 applicants registered for 532 positions in this exam. Although the number of applicants increased by 50.1% (3,142 people) compared to the previous year, the recruitment scale increased by 66% (212 people) compared to last year, resulting in a slight decrease in the competition rate. Last year's competition rate was 19.5 to 1.
The education administration category, which had the largest number of recruits, recorded a competition rate of 21.9 to 1 with 8,056 applicants for 400 positions, while the librarian category, the second largest, had 695 applicants for 55 positions, showing a competition rate of 12.6 to 1.
The competition rates for separate recruitment were 3.8 to 1 for persons with disabilities, 8.7 to 1 for low-income groups, and 1.4 to 1 for national merit recipients. The career competitive recruitment exam for students from specialized high schools and Meister high schools showed a competition rate of 12.9 to 1.
The gender ratio of applicants was 71.1% female and 28.9% male. Age distribution was 50.4% under 20s, 38.4% in their 30s, 10.3% in their 40s, and 0.9% aged 50 and above.
The written exam, scheduled for the 13th of next month, will implement measures due to concerns over the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), including a single entrance for the exam venue and strengthened entry procedures, reduced capacity per exam room, mandatory mask-wearing for all examinees, and other behavioral guidelines. These guidelines will be announced in advance when the exam locations are posted on the 1st of next month, two weeks before the exam, and will be displayed in each exam room on the exam day.
