From Reconstruction General Meeting to Fan Signing Event... The Trend is 'Drive-Thru'
Drive-Thru Establishing Itself as the New Normal in the Era of Epidemics
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Reconstruction association general meetings, fan sign events... Drive-thru has become the 'new normal' of the era following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Gaepo Jugong 1 Complex association in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, a representative reconstruction complex, held the first-ever drive-thru style general meeting for association members on the 28th of last month. More than 1,500 association members gathered in an open space within the complex where demolition had been completed. The meeting began with measuring the body temperature of members seated in their cars. The association installed cameras on the stage to livestream the proceedings on YouTube, which members watched on their smartphones. Voting on agenda items also took place. Members received ballots inside their vehicles, marked them, and staff wearing protective suits collected the ballots by going around to each vehicle.
Gaepo Jugong 1 Complex is one of this year's largest reconstruction projects, set to transform into approximately 6,700 households. Due to COVID-19, a necessary procedure?the association general meeting?was once canceled before the general sale. Having successfully completed the meeting via drive-thru, the project is expected to gain momentum. Following the success of the Gaepo Jugong 1 Complex meeting, the Seocho Shindong-A Apartment reconstruction association in Seocho-dong plans to hold a drive-thru style general meeting at the Yangjae-dong 'Hyun Parking Lot' on the 9th.
Singer Yang Joon-il held the world's first 'drive-thru fan signing event' on the 28th of last month near Lotte Premium Outlet in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, to commemorate the launch of his YouTube channel 'Rebooting Yang Joon-il.' Fans in their cars wore masks, underwent temperature checks and hand sanitization, and received autographs from Yang Joon-il in turn without leaving their vehicles. Yang Joon-il personally signed and greeted fans outside the cars while wearing a mask and gloves. After the drive-thru fan signing event, Yang Joon-il expressed his gratitude, saying, "Although we met wearing masks, we could not hide our love for each other."
"We cannot sell sashimi to customers who do not come by car." On the 25th of last month, live sashimi was sold via drive-thru at 'Singsing Market,' a local market in Sejong. The response was so enthusiastic that the surrounding roads turned into parking lots. This drive-thru event successfully boosted seafood consumption, which had been subdued due to COVID-19. According to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, the four-day Sejong drive-thru event sold 4,700 plates of assorted sashimi, freshwater eel, trout, sea squirts, and more, generating sales of 104 million won.
