Chinese Media Quickly Report Kim Jong-un's Appearance After 20 Days
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 2nd, Chinese media quickly reported on photos and updates of North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un, who appeared in public for the first time in 20 days despite the Labor Day holiday, drawing attention.
The state-run Xinhua News Agency reported from Pyongyang on the 2nd that Chairman Kim attended the completion ceremony of the Suncheon In Fertilizer Factory in South Pyongan Province on the previous day, Labor Day (May 1), and published photos of Kim cutting the ribbon at the fertilizer factory completion ceremony in a robust appearance.
The newspaper reported that Chairman Kim attended the completion ceremony together with his younger sister Kim Yo-jong, First Deputy Director of the Workers' Party, Premier Kim Jae-ryong, Party Vice Chairmen Pak Pong-ju, Kim Tok-hun, and Pak Tae-song, and First Deputy Director of the Party Jo Yong-won.
It also reported that Chairman Kim greeted everyone by waving his hand amid cheers from the construction workers at the site. Additionally, it conveyed the evaluation from the Korean Central News Agency that this factory is the first achievement since the 7th Central Committee's 5th Plenary Meeting of the Workers' Party of Korea, elevating the Korean chemical industry to a new stage.
China Central Television (CCTV) also reported under the title "Kim Jong-un attended the completion ceremony of the Suncheon In Fertilizer Factory," including photos and details from the site. It explained, "This is Kim Jong-un's first public activity since attending the Workers' Party of Korea Central Political Bureau meeting on the 11th." CCTV also covered photos of Kim cutting the ribbon at the fertilizer factory, smiling broadly while inspecting the factory, and clapping hands at the completion ceremony.
The Global Times reported that the North Korean supreme leader appeared in state media for the first time in about 20 days, and that the completion ceremony attended by Kim was splendidly held amid everyone's "manse" cheers.
While most state-run media refrained from evaluation and delivered content concisely regarding Chairman Kim's appearance, Phoenix News commented on Kim's public appearance, saying, "All news about Joseon is full of variables and there are too many unknowns. What is needed is continuous attention and analysis." It added, "South Korea and the United States have mobilized many sources over the past ten days to expose information related to Joseon, but whether intentional or not, this time Joseon has won."
