Unauthorized Quarantine Violators Also Eligible for Emergency Disaster Relief Fund
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The government has decided to provide emergency disaster relief funds even to those who have violated self-quarantine rules for COVID-19 by leaving quarantine without permission.
Park Jonghyun, Head of the Public Relations Management Team at the Government-wide Countermeasure Support Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, explained at the regular briefing of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 1st, "The purpose of the emergency disaster relief fund is to compensate income and promote consumption, and considering the policy change to expand payment to all citizens, it was decided to provide the funds to those who left quarantine without permission."
Park added, "Since the purposes of the emergency disaster relief fund and sanctions for violating self-quarantine are different, there was an opinion within the government that excluding those who left quarantine without permission from receiving the emergency disaster relief fund could be considered an abuse or deviation of discretionary power."
However, Park emphasized, "Living support expenses will not be provided to those who left quarantine without permission."
