Prosecution Appeals Against Not Guilty Verdict for Police Commissioner Yoon Mo
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has filed an appeal in the case of Police Commissioner Yoon, who was acquitted in the first trial.
According to the court on the 1st, the prosecution submitted a notice of appeal to the court on the 29th of last month regarding the case of Commissioner Yoon, who was indicted on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (accepting bribes). The deadline for appeal was midnight of that day.
The appeal trial will be heard by the Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court. The panel in charge of the case has not yet been decided.
Previously, the first trial court, the 27th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Seon-il), acquitted Commissioner Yoon on the 24th of last month, stating that "the prosecution's evidence was insufficient."
Commissioner Yoon was tried on charges of receiving stocks worth several tens of millions of won from Jeong, the former CEO of Nokwon CNI (formerly Cubes), a special ink manufacturing company.
Jeong was also indicted on charges of abusing authority by intervening in the case during a police investigation in 2016 on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud and embezzlement).
Commissioner Yoon is also accused of ordering Jeong to delete all messages on Telegram and other mobile phone apps during the Burning Sun investigation.
Commissioner Yoon was suspected of colluding with singer Seungri during the police investigation into the Burning Sun scandal.
