SPC Samlip's 'Pengsoo Bread' Surpasses 1 Million Units Sold in Just 2 Weeks
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] SPC Samlip announced on the 31st that its ‘Pengsoo Bread,’ modeled after EBS’s popular creator ‘Pengsoo,’ surpassed 1 million units sold within just two weeks of its launch.
This figure is twice as high compared to other new products during the same period, making it a product that continues the successful lineage of character breads following Gukjjini, Pok?mon, and Kakao Friends.
Pengsoo Bread combines great taste and cost-effectiveness, and the included ‘Pengsoo Seal’ adds to its popularity. There are a total of 71 types of ‘Pengsoo Seals,’ featuring images such as humorous photos and illustrations of ‘Pengsoo.’ Collecting or showcasing these ‘Pengsoo Seals’ has become popular among consumers, increasing their desire to purchase. On the day of release, over a thousand voluntary posts certifying the purchase of ‘Pengsoo Bread’ appeared online.
Riding on this popularity, SPC Samlip additionally launched new products featuring the Pengsoo character under its dessert brand ‘Cafe Snow.’ These include two refrigerated desserts: ‘Excited! Cream Cheese Choux,’ filled with cheese cream and blueberry jam inside a choux pastry, and ‘Penglove Chocolat Cake,’ a mini chocolate cake coated with ganache chocolate. Instead of a ‘Pengsoo Seal,’ the ‘Penglove Chocolat Cake’ includes a ‘Pengsoo Decoration (Pick)’ that can be inserted into the cake for added fun. These products are available at convenience stores, priced at 2,600 KRW and 5,500 KRW respectively.
In early April, SPC Samlip will hold a ‘Pengsoo Seal Certification Shot Event’ on Samlip’s official social network service (SNS) channels (Facebook, Instagram), where limited edition ‘Pengsoo Seal Books’ and other prizes will be given away through a lottery.
