Launch of the 'Minsheng Economy Revitalization Task Force' in Buk-gu, Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 29th that it has launched the ‘Buk-gu Livelihood Economy Revitalization Task Force’ to recover the local economy, which has been stagnated due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The launch of this task force was promoted to align with the recently formed ‘Gwangju Emergency Economic Countermeasures Meeting’ by Gwangju City, to share support measures for small business owners from the central government and Gwangju City, and to prepare and implement the district’s own support plans.
Starting this month, 23 departments and 27 neighborhoods will participate, focusing on eight tasks across four major areas: economic support, livelihood support, administrative support, and daily life support, to respond vigorously to the economic crisis.
First, to provide management funds to small business owners and SMEs affected by COVID-19, the district will actively promote Gwangju City’s ‘3-No (No Collateral, No Interest, No Guarantee Fee) Special Loans’ and various government financial support policies.
Also, through the neighborhood administrative welfare centers, applications for Gwangju-type three major emergency livelihood funds?household emergency living expenses, special employment livelihood expenses, and living expenses for the unemployed or on leave?will be received without delay, focusing on stabilizing the lives of households in crisis.
Along with this, using various promotional media, the district will spread the atmosphere of participation in the ‘Good Rent Movement,’ and for landlords participating in the good rent program, support projects such as a maximum 1 million KRW reduction in property tax (building portion) for July, rent reduction for district-owned facilities, and freezing of public utility fees in autonomous districts will be implemented simultaneously.
Meanwhile, on the 25th, Buk-gu held a livelihood economy countermeasure meeting with representatives of merchant associations from Malbau Market, Unam Market, Duam Market, and five specialized street merchant associations including the Building Materials Street and Yongbong Fashion Street. On the 26th, a meeting was held with representatives from eight local small business associations including dining, lodging, tourism, and academy federations.
They explained government policies and listened to difficulties and suggestions felt on site.
At the meeting, small business owners suggested easing loan criteria and shortening periods, reducing VAT, card fees, and public utility fees, and explanations of government and local government policies.
Buk-gu plans to establish a guidance system connecting Buk-gu, small business associations, and members to continuously inform about small business support projects and actively consult with Gwangju City and others to resolve difficulties and suggestions.
