Actor Cha Ji-yeon's One-Person Play 'Grounded' to Be Performed at Uran2gyeong in May
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Actress Cha Ji-yeon's one-woman play 'Grounded' will be performed from May 14 to 24 at Uran Cultural Foundation's Uran 2-gyeong.
'Grounded' is a co-produced work by Uran Cultural Foundation and Project Group Ilda, premiering in Korea. Uran Cultural Foundation and Project Group Ilda previously co-produced the one-woman play 'Repairing the Living' last year.
'Grounded' is a representative work by American playwright George Brant. Since its premiere in 2013, it has been performed in over 140 productions across 19 countries and 12 languages worldwide. It was recognized for its artistic merit, being selected as one of the Guardian and London Evening Standard's 'Top 10 Plays of the Year' in 2013.
'Grounded' explores the duality and boundaries of a single existence, inspired by the dual nature of drones as both weapons of offense and means of defense in modern warfare.
The story follows an ace fighter pilot who, after an unexpected pregnancy, is assigned to operate military unmanned reconnaissance drones at Creech Air Force Base in Las Vegas. The protagonist monitors battlefields on the opposite side of the globe through screens, attacking enemies, while after work, she experiences growing confusion over the dissonance of living an ordinary life with her family.
'Grounded' poses insightful questions to society about the hidden aspects of the new technology embodied by 'drones.' Project Group Ilda, leveraging their production expertise from theater and musicals, has staged works such as the musical 'Bernarda Alba' and the play 'The End of Love.'
