[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Jaguar Land Rover Korea announced on the 27th that it has opened its own training facility, the ‘Global Technical Apprentice Training Center,’ within Doowon Technical University, becoming the first in the imported car industry to do so.

Along with the opening of the training center, Jaguar Land Rover Korea donated a Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and a Jaguar XF equipped with the latest technology as research vehicles to enhance the maintenance skills of trainees.

The establishment of this training center was carried out to take a step further from the existing industry-academia cooperation and to actively operate the Global Technical Apprentice Program. In 2019, Jaguar Land Rover Korea signed industry-academia cooperation agreements with Doowon Technical University and Ajou Automobile College, supporting each university with one vehicle (Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport) for education and research purposes, as well as teaching materials and special equipment, amounting to approximately 200 million KRW.

The Jaguar Land Rover Global Technical Apprentice Program is a global standard talent development system directly developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s UK headquarters, aiming to cultivate excellent maintenance personnel. Selected students undergo a total of 46 weeks of systematic maintenance theory learning and retailer field training.

Jaguar Land Rover Korea has produced 20 certified technicians by 2018, and 11 selected trainees from 2019 are currently undergoing the training course. All graduates of the Jaguar Land Rover Global Technical Apprentice Program are offered opportunities to join Jaguar Land Rover’s official retailers as full-time employees.

Baek Jeong-hyun, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Korea, said, “We are pleased to establish a training center for the Global Apprentice Program, enabling us to provide Jaguar Land Rover’s systematic and differentiated curriculum,” adding, “Training maintenance talent is highly meaningful as it offers quality employment opportunities to students and improved maintenance services to customers.”
