[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Shijingshan District of Beijing, China, a sister city of Mapo-gu, has sent COVID-19 prevention supplies worth approximately 50 million KRW, including masks, gloves, and protective suits.
Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced on the 25th that Shijingshan District of Beijing, its sister city in China, sent prevention supplies worth about 50 million KRW, including 20,000 masks, 20,000 pairs of latex gloves, and 200 protective suits, to be used for overcoming COVID-19.
According to the district, on the 28th of last month, Shijingshan District expressed concern over the spread of COVID-19 in Korea and conveyed its intention to contribute to overcoming the difficulties together to Mapo-gu.
Subsequently, the prevention supplies prepared and sent by Shijingshan District went through customs clearance at Incheon Airport and arrived at Mapo-gu Office around 9 a.m. on the 25th. The supplies were confirmed to include 20,000 masks, 20,000 pairs of latex gloves, and 200 protective suits.
In a message sent along with the supplies, Shijingshan District stated, “The 24 years of friendship with Mapo-gu have grown strong over a long time. We hope that both sides will join hands and wish for the arrival of spring with one heart.”
The district plans to urgently deploy the prevention supplies received from Shijingshan District to the field for COVID-19 response. Masks and gloves will be distributed to vulnerable groups and workers involved in prevention activities, and protective suits will be used at health centers and screening clinics.
Earlier, in February, when the spread of COVID-19 was at its peak in China, Mapo-gu supported Shijingshan District with more than 30,000 prevention items such as protective suits and gloves. At that time, Shijingshan District Mayor Li Xin conveyed in a letter to Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun that “the support and encouragement from Mapo-gu will be deeply cherished for a long time.”
Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, “I was deeply moved by the fact that we have friends who worry about and support us in our difficulties,” and added, “Contrary to the damage and losses caused by COVID-19, the cooperative relationship between the two sides, which can respond and overcome this crisis together, is expected to be further strengthened in the future.”
On this day, Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun announced that he will donate 30% of his salary for four months from March to June to the local community.
Mayor Yoo said, “With the prolonged COVID-19 situation causing economic stagnation and increasing the livelihood burden on residents, I want to empathize with the difficulties of vulnerable residents and contribute even a little to overcoming them.”
