‘Suncheon-type Emergency Living Stabilization Support Fund’ Greatly Expanded, First Introduced by Local Government
2.5 Billion Invested, Selection Criteria Greatly Expanded, 100 Inquiries Flood In Daily
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City announced on the 25th that it will secure a budget of 2.5 billion KRW for the 'Suncheon-type Emergency Living Stabilization Support Fund' through the 239th Suncheon City Council extraordinary session and the Administrative Autonomy Committee report, and significantly expand the selection criteria.
The 'Suncheon-type Emergency Living Stabilization Support Fund,' with an expected investment of 2.5 billion KRW, has been implemented since the 5th as the first local government initiative to support households facing crises such as business downturns, temporary or permanent closures, and unemployment due to COVID-19.
The selection criteria have been expanded from the original median income standard of 50% (4-person household / 2,374,587 KRW) to 80% (4-person household / 3,799,339 KRW), property from 118 million KRW to 160 million KRW, and financial assets/cash from 10 million KRW to 15 million KRW.
In particular, automobiles are applied as general property, while housing subscription savings and insurance policies are excluded from financial assets. Applicants must currently be registered residents of Suncheon City.
This selection criteria will be temporarily applied until the COVID-19 situation recovers, and applications can be submitted by eligible individuals or their representatives at the Eup, Myeon, or Dong administrative welfare centers with valid identification.
Selection of recipients takes 8 to 10 days from the date of document verification. Support amounts are provided in Suncheon Love Gift Certificates worth 400,000 KRW for single-person households, 600,000 KRW for two-person households, 800,000 KRW for three-person households, and 1 million KRW for households of four or more, divided into up to two installments.
So far, over 260 cases involving more than 550 applicants have been submitted, with about 100 phone inquiries received daily. However, those receiving support under other laws such as the National Basic Livelihood Security or Emergency Welfare Support are excluded from eligibility.
Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, "The expansion of the selection criteria was adjusted because, following the government's temporary relaxation of emergency welfare support standards in response to COVID-19, it was necessary to broaden the Suncheon-type Emergency Living Stabilization Support criteria beyond the legal standards. We will thoroughly promote this to ensure no one misses the opportunity to apply due to lack of information."
