"Creating Gwangju with an Abundance of Quality Jobs"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Song Gap-seok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, officially declared his candidacy for the National Assembly election in Seo-gu (Gap), Gwangju Metropolitan City.
On the 25th, Song stated in a press release, “The next two weeks are a critical period to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” and added, “Since the candidacy declaration press conference is a gathering of many citizens and journalists, we have decided to omit it to prevent any possible mass infection damage.”
He continued, “While all citizens are overcoming the crisis with resilience shining in the darkness, the United Future Party still cannot escape the river of impeachment and is shaking the country with unconditional opposition and criticism,” emphasizing, “The party that stands boldly at the forefront of overcoming this national crisis together with the people and the Moon Jae-in administration is the Democratic Party of Korea.”
He also appealed, “Our people have historically faced numerous crises and hardships but have never faltered or been defeated,” and urged, “Please join forces to end COVID-19 and revive the collapsed economy. I will overcome this together with the citizens of Gwangju and the candidates in the Gwangju region.”
Furthermore, he stated, “I will make Gwangju a center of the 4th Industrial Revolution and Seo-gu a hub for youth startups,” and added, “Through regulatory reform and creating an attractive investment base, I will do my best to make a city where high-quality talent gathers, companies come, young entrepreneurs invigorate the local economy, and quality jobs are abundant with a virtuous cycle of startups and investments.”
He went on, “Despite numerous trials and failures, I have followed the demands of the era and the voice of conscience, always living with and protecting Gwangju,” emphasizing, “With the passion of walking the path for democratization, I will achieve justice and dignity, the success of the Moon Jae-in administration, and the development of Gwangju.”
Meanwhile, Song, who entered the National Assembly through a by-election in 2018, is the only ruling party lawmaker from Gwangju and the only member of the Budget and Accounts Committee from Honam. He led efforts to secure the largest national budget in Gwangju’s history for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020. He also fully supported and prepared for Gwangju’s future industries, including advanced artificial intelligence industries.
