Toyota Japan Suspends Production Facilities Due to COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eunbyeol] As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) spreads, major Japanese automobile manufacturers are also suspending operations at their domestic production facilities.
According to Kyodo News on the 24th, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that it will halt operations at five factories and seven production lines in Japan starting April 4th, reflecting a decrease in demand due to the spread of COVID-19.
This is the first time Toyota has stopped operations at its factories in Japan due to COVID-19.
Nissan Motor Corporation has also temporarily suspended operations at factories in Fukuoka Prefecture and other locations, and Honda adjusted the number of vehicles produced at its factory in Saitama Prefecture this month.
Mazda announced that it will suspend operations for 13 days between March 28th and the end of April at its headquarters factory in Hiroshima and its factory in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
