On the afternoon of the 23rd, Hwang posted on his Facebook, stating, "It is incomprehensible to abandon the party and run as an independent."
He said, "United we live, divided we die. I urge you to unite," and proposed, "Let us stand on the side of the people, hold onto our conscience, and rise together." This appears to be directed at figures such as former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo, former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Tae-ho, and Representative Yoon Sang-hyun, who declared independent candidacies after rejecting the party's nomination results.
Regarding this, Hwang said, "Why wouldn't my heart have been hurt during the nomination process? But I had to keep my own resolve and promises to the people," adding, "There were shortcomings and discomforts in the nomination process. Candidates may have dissatisfaction with the nomination results. How could I not understand those feelings?" he questioned rhetorically.
He also emphasized unity, saying, "How did our party come this far? On a very steep and slippery path, falling, breaking, shedding tears, and rising again, we have come this far together."
