Japan Includes the United States in Entry Restriction Countries... "Effective from the 26th"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The Japanese government has designated the United States as a country subject to entry restrictions starting from the 26th in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun on the 23rd, the Japanese government added the United States to the list of countries subject to entry restrictions at the COVID-19 task force meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Accordingly, all people entering Japan from the United States will be required, from 0:00 on the 26th, to stay for 14 days at home, a hotel, or a place designated by the quarantine officer as a quarantine period to confirm whether they are infected with COVID-19, and they will be requested not to use public transportation.
This measure will be implemented until the end of April and includes Japanese nationals among those entering the country. Prime Minister Abe said, "We intend to align with the efforts of various countries, including the United States, to prevent global spread," adding, "We will continue to monitor and analyze overseas infection situations and will not hesitate to take measures to block the inflow of infection sources." He also emphasized to related ministers, "Please continue to respond with a high level of vigilance."

Previously, Japan imposed entry restrictions on 40 countries, including South Korea, China, Iran, Egypt, and almost all European countries. Japan included the United States in the entry restriction list because the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is rapidly increasing in the United States. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the infectious disease risk information for the entire United States from 'Level 1,' which is a caution stage, to 'Level 2,' which advises suspending unnecessary visits.
