"Proposed by Residents, Decided by Residents" … Gyeongnam Province Expands Resident Participation in Budget Planning
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 23rd that it will promote a resident participation budget system worth a total of 1 billion KRW, significantly expanding the participation of residents.
The plan includes strengthening residents' online participation by establishing a resident participation budget system website. In particular, it newly established a youth participation type and a youth committee, the first of its kind nationwide.
The resident participation budget project contest will be promoted in categories such as provincial government participation type, province-city/county linked cooperation type, youth participation type, and region-led type, with a total scale of 13 billion KRW.
The 'provincial government participation type' is a project aimed at improving the benefits of all residents, with a total scale of 3 billion KRW and up to 500 million KRW per project. The 'province-city/county linked cooperation type' is a project to solve regional problems at the city/county level, operated with a total scale of 8 billion KRW and up to 300 million KRW per project.
The 'youth participation type,' newly established for the first time nationwide this year, is a project for youth in various fields such as jobs, culture and arts, and welfare, operated with a total scale of 1 billion KRW and up to 200 million KRW per project, aiming to contribute to making Gyeongnam a better place for youth to live. Additionally, a youth committee was established to maximize the reflection of youth opinions during project evaluation and selection.
The 'region-led projects,' directly discovered and selected by residents, are life-centered projects to create better villages at the eup, myeon, and dong levels. This time, a total of 40 locations will be supported with 25 million KRW per eup, myeon, or dong, totaling 1 billion KRW.
All projects that can be implemented by local governments are eligible, but projects such as public office facility function reinforcement, operating expenses for already installed facilities, projects supporting specific organizations, and small-scale civil complaint-centered projects like road maintenance are excluded.
