[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 22nd, the Justice Party decided to return 30% of the salaries of National Assembly members as a measure to share the damage caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The salary return period will last until COVID-19 is eradicated.
Jung Ho-jin, spokesperson for the election countermeasures committee, said in a statement that "Now, as the clock of people's livelihoods has stopped due to the spread of COVID-19, the entire nation is joining forces for active damage relief and overcoming the livelihood crisis, and there can be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties," adding, "We hope that the Justice Party's return of National Assembly members' salaries will serve as a small catalyst for sharing pain and damage, and that the livelihood crisis will be overcome as soon as possible."
The spokesperson said, "The Justice Party has urged the government to take proactive measures amounting to 100 trillion won, including a national disaster basic income to prevent losses of 1,000 trillion won, and interest-free loans with a five-year maturity for self-employed people and small and medium-sized enterprises facing crisis," and added, "We hope the government will take active measures."
