Won Yu-cheol "Future Korea Party Public Official Committee Chair Baek Gyu-han... Reconsideration of Proportional Representation List" (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Won Yu-cheol, leader of the Future Korea Party, appointed Bae Gyu-han, former Future United Party auditor, as the chairman of the nomination management committee. The existing proportional representation candidate recommendation plan will be reconsidered by the new nomination committee.
On the afternoon of the 20th, after holding a closed highest council meeting at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, Leader Won told reporters, "We have approved the newly appointed nomination committee members, including Chairman Bae Gyu-han." He also decided to appoint former Secretary-General Jo Hun-hyun as the vice chairman of the nomination committee along with Secretary-General Yeom Dong-ryeol.
Chairman Gong Byung-ho of the nomination committee did not express his intention to resign, stating that modifications and supplements to the proportional representation list were possible. However, with the newly formed highest council appointing a new nomination committee chairman, he was effectively dismissed. Chairman Bae graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in sociology, earned a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Illinois, served as Secretary-General of the National Research Foundation of Korea, and is a Future United Party figure who previously served as the party's auditor.
Leader Won explained, "Chairman Bae is a scholar respected for his character and academic knowledge, and he has extensive experience. He is also well-versed in political affairs and understands the nature of the National Assembly and political parties, which is why we brought him on board." Regarding former Chairman Gong, he said, "He made great efforts. If there is an opportunity, I think we should at least acknowledge him."
Due to the changes in the nomination committee, the proportional representation candidate list will undergo reconsideration. When asked whether the review would proceed with the current candidates, Leader Won said, "At this point, it is a matter for the nomination committee to decide," adding, "Since time is limited, the nomination committee will review only those who have applied so far."
