Gwangju Seo-gu Supports Local Farms Supplying School Meals
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 20th that it has taken steps to help local farms whose sales channels for school meal ingredients have been blocked due to the third postponement of school openings for elementary, middle, and high schools by the Ministry of Education amid the spread of COVID-19.
Since the 18th, Seo-gu has been vigorously promoting a voluntary purchase campaign of eco-friendly agricultural products called ‘Nanum Kkurumi’ by public officials and residents to support the affected farms.
This Nanum Kkurumi purchase campaign was initiated to help farms, which, due to the nature of agricultural products, have no choice but to discard their produce if they cannot ship it on time.
The ‘Nanum Kkurumi’ to be sold consists of seven items including fully ripe tomatoes, zucchini, perilla leaves, peeled green onions, and free-range eggs, produced by six farms supplying eco-friendly school meals.
The assembled packages will be sold at 20,000 won, about 17% cheaper than the regular price, with orders accepted until the 23rd and delivery scheduled thereafter.
