Amid COVID-19 Spread Concerns... India Allows Selective Entry of Korean Company Workers
Samsung C&T, Kia Motors Affiliates, Doosan Heavy Industries, and Others Allow Employee Entry
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] The Indian government, which had blocked foreign nationals from entering due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), has selectively allowed essential personnel of Korean companies to enter.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India on the 19th, the Indian government recently permitted about 10 employees from Samsung C&T, Kia Motors affiliates, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, and Samsung Engineering to enter.
The Indian government decided to recognize the validity of existing employment visas for employees of Samsung C&T and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. Kia Motors affiliate employees were issued new visas. Three Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction employees and one Samsung Engineering employee entered the country the day before.
The Indian government recently blocked entry of foreign nationals from Korea, Japan, Italy, and Iran by invalidating existing visas and, starting from the 13th, expanded the entry ban to all foreigners.
However, the validity of some visas, such as employment visas and project visas, will be maintained, and new visas will be issued in unavoidable cases. Through these exceptions, the Indian government allowed essential personnel of Korean companies to enter.
