Italy Extends Movement Restrictions and School Closures Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] The Italian government has decided to extend the nationwide movement restrictions and school closure orders amid the ongoing damage caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte stated in an interview with the daily Corriere della Sera published on the 19th (local time), "The measures we have taken need to be extended beyond the original deadline."
He added, "Even if we get past the worst situation, we will not be able to immediately return to our previous daily lives," and urged, "Please comply with the government's restrictions until the very end."
The Italian government plans to confirm and announce the extension of the nationwide movement restrictions and other measures soon after a cabinet meeting.

Previously, the Italian government had issued a school closure order for all levels of education, including universities, until the 3rd of next month, and suspended all sports events, including the professional football league (Serie A). Additionally, the movement restriction order, which was limited to some northern regions, was expanded nationwide.
