Green Party "Suspends Participation in Democratic Party-led Coalition... Oppressive Attitude of Established Powers"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Green Party has withdrawn its intention to participate in the proportional representation alliance party. They judged that the alliance lost its purpose as it was led by the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 18th, the Green Party stated in a press release, "We are stopping participation in the election alliance party led by the Democratic Party of Korea," adding, "We strongly criticize all election alliance discussions that took place over three days after the general vote as a mere facade of an election alliance led by the Democratic Party of Korea, which even undermines the purpose of the semi-proportional representation system."
The Green Party had formed an electoral alliance with the youth party Miraedang and proposed to the Democratic Party of Korea a 'horizontal alliance discussion' and the 'formation of an open table.' The Green Party pointed out, "The Democratic Party of Korea did not build trust between parties but adopted a closed and unilateral approach to the alliance party, arbitrarily recruited minor parties, and led the entire discussion. In particular, during this process, they pointed out the sexual minority identity of the Green Party’s proportional representation candidate and tried to exercise control over the candidate list."
They continued, "They also demanded that the candidate list be verified according to the method introduced by the Democratic Party of Korea. This is a typical method and oppressive attitude of vested interest politics that is unthinkable in an alliance between 'party to party.'"
The Green Party expressed strong regret toward the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "They reduced the election alliance discussion to a mere political engineering game." The Green Party claimed, "Before even having an open debate on each party’s platform and policies, we were unilaterally urged to join the 'Together Citizens Party' adopted by the Democratic Party of Korea. The Democratic Party narrowed the agenda and value discussions, making it impossible to transform the election alliance into a value alliance."
