Woori Financial Group Supports Vulnerable Students Amid COVID-19 School Opening Delays
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Woori Financial Group announced on the 18th that it has donated funds to the international relief and development NGO Good Neighbors to help vulnerable students who are facing a delayed new semester due to the postponement of school openings caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Woori Financial is running the "Let's Go to School with Woori (WOORI)" project to support students who have faced difficulties due to the three postponements of school openings nationwide, including kindergartens, elementary, middle, high schools, and special schools. Through Good Neighbors branches across the country, Woori Financial provided sponsorship funds to about 210 selected vulnerable students to help them purchase necessary supplies and school uniforms for the new semester.
Son Tae-seung, Chairman of Woori Financial, said, "I hope our students, who should be welcoming a new semester full of dreams and hope, will not be disheartened by the COVID-19 situation and will bravely and healthily envision their future." He added, "Woori Financial Group will continue to expand various social contribution activities that protect and nurture future generations."
In January, at the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak, Woori Financial proactively responded to prevent the spread of the virus by providing masks and hand sanitizers worth 500 million KRW free of charge to protect customers' safety and health. It also supported infection prevention kits worth 100 million KRW to high-risk groups such as children and the elderly.
