[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the morning of the 17th, Cho Se-young, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone call with Steven Biegun, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, to discuss the global trends and response measures related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Vice Minister Cho explained in detail Korea's COVID-19 response situation, stating, "Although the number of new COVID-19 cases in our country has recently shown a declining trend, we are not letting our guard down and are maintaining an active preparedness posture by strengthening quarantine measures at entry and exit points to prevent additional community infections and inflows from overseas."
He then requested cooperation from the U.S. side regarding the holding of a special G20 (Group of Twenty) video summit proposed by President Moon Jae-in as part of international cooperation to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.

In response, Deputy Secretary Biegun expressed trust, saying, "I believe Korea's strong and transparent response is achieving results in containing the spread of COVID-19," and expressed gratitude for Korea's information sharing related to COVID-19 response, hoping to continue close communication and cooperation for effective future responses.
