Passenger ferries can also be booked and boarded via mobile apps like trains
[Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Like trains and buses, passenger ships will also allow convenient boarding without on-site ticket issuance through mobile boarding passes.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it will implement the 'Mobile Boarding Pass System' from the end of this month to enhance convenience for passenger ship users. After a pilot operation targeting passenger ship users in the Incheon area at the end of last year, the system will be officially operated for all coastal passenger ships. Mobile boarding passes can be reserved through the smartphone application 'Gabo-go-sipeun Seom' or the website.
Until now, passenger ship users had to present their ID at the departure terminal ticket counter to receive a paper boarding pass, but from now on, they only need to present their ID and mobile boarding pass when boarding without on-site ticket issuance. Shipping companies are also expected to reduce costs related to issuing and storing boarding passes by managing boarding passes and passenger lists electronically instead of physically.
