Chungnam to Invest 23.9 Billion Won in Strengthening Management of School Zones and More
[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province will invest 23.9 billion KRW in traffic safety environment improvement projects, including strengthening the management of school zones within the province. The budget has increased by 15.5 billion KRW from last year's 8.4 billion KRW.
According to the province on the 17th, this project is centered on expanding facilities such as advance traffic signals, vehicle reduction installations, and safety signs to eliminate traffic safety risks and vulnerable factors within the region.
The detailed projects and allocated budgets are ▲Improvement of 9 locations with frequent traffic accidents: 1.8 billion KRW ▲Installation of 5 roundabouts: 1.4 billion KRW ▲Improvement of 32 school zones: 3.4 billion KRW ▲Installation of unmanned traffic enforcement equipment (speed enforcement cameras) at 228 locations: 12.9 billion KRW ▲Improvement of 39 senior citizen protection zones: 2.3 billion KRW ▲Creation of safe pedestrian environments at 3 locations: 2.1 billion KRW.
In particular, this year, the installation of unmanned traffic enforcement equipment in school zones has been newly included. This project aims to prevent traffic accidents in advance by strengthening the management of school zones through installing speed enforcement devices and traffic signals at crosswalks without signal devices within school zones.
Additionally, to achieve zero child traffic accidents, the province has formed a 'Child Traffic Safety Enhancement Task Force (TF)' in collaboration with the Chungnam Office of Education, Chungnam Provincial Police Agency, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and Chungnam Transportation Training Institute, planning to improve the child traffic environment through organic cooperation.
