One More COVID-19 Case in Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries... Total 27 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Another confirmed case of COVID-19 has emerged at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in the Government Complex Sejong.
According to Sejong City on the 15th, a female public official in her 30s working on the 4th floor of Building 5 at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Maritime Logistics Bureau (residing in Dodam-dong Doreammaeul Complex 6) tested positive for COVID-19 on that day.
Including 13 people who were tested at other regional addresses, all remaining Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries employees, including dispatched, public service, and contract workers totaling 768 people, were confirmed negative.
Thus, the number of COVID-19 infections within the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is expected to remain at 27, with the one additional case confirmed that day being the last. As testing of all Ministry employees is completed, Sejong City plans to conduct tests on employees' families and contacts going forward.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries closed the entire building that day and conducted a comprehensive disinfection operation. On Monday the 16th, employees who tested negative and had no contact with confirmed cases will be allowed to return to work normally to restore departmental operations.
It has not yet been determined who the index patient among the Ministry employees is or where the infection originated. The city is conducting an epidemiological investigation into the Ministry employees' travel history to Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions and any business trips to China to identify the source of infection.
The number of confirmed cases in central government agencies within Sejong City stands at 33 in total: 27 at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (including one employee residing in Seoul), 1 at the Ministry of Education, 1 at the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, 1 at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 1 at the Presidential Archives under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and 1 at the Ministry of Personnel Management (residing in Cheonan). Among the 40 confirmed cases in the Sejong area, 85% are government officials (30 people excluding the Ministry of Personnel Management employee residing in Cheonan and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries employee residing in Seoul) and their families (4 people).

Among the confirmed patients in the city, 9 who require additional treatment due to symptoms such as pneumonia have been transferred to nearby Cheongju Medical Center and Chungnam National University Hospital. Fifteen mild cases are receiving treatment at the Hapgang Auto Camping Site Living Treatment Center. The remaining 16, who have almost no symptoms, are under self-quarantine.
