Jeon Nam-do Councilor Shin Min-ho Points Out Lack of Expertise Among Specialized High School Teachers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Shin Minho, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly, pointed out the need to strengthen the expertise of specialized high school teachers during a current affairs report at the Jeonnam Office of Education.
Specialized high schools, which aim to nurture creative and convergent talents to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution, provide education for obtaining various certifications including ultralight aircraft pilot and 3D printer operator. However, it has been revealed that many teachers in charge do not hold related certifications.
On the 13th, Assemblyman Shin Minho stated, “In the current affairs report at the Jeonnam Office of Education, I urged that specialized high school teachers acquire certifications in related fields and strengthen their expertise.”
Assemblyman Shin pointed out, “Although schools have newly established departments such as the Drone Industry Department and the e-Business Department aiming to nurture talents to lead future industries through curriculum restructuring, there is not a single teacher who has obtained professional certifications such as the ultralight aircraft pilot license.”
He continued, “Even the technical high school, which has been established for over 90 years, is organized into traditional departments such as civil engineering, architecture, electricity, and chemical engineering, but only some teachers have obtained related certifications.”
In particular, he said, “I fully support the restructuring of specialized high school departments to keep up with the changes of the times. However, due to the nature of specialized high school departments, the expertise of teachers is very important for education in major fields. Therefore, before restructuring the departments, it is necessary to enhance teachers’ expertise and establish a foundation for obtaining related certifications.”

Finally, he requested, “Since the turnover rate of specialized high school graduates is high, a thorough investigation into the reasons for resignation is needed.
