Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul, held a briefing on the morning of the 12th and announced, "As of 10 a.m. today, the number of confirmed cases related to the call center employees located in the Korea Building in Guro-gu and their families has been counted at 102."
By region, there are 71 in Seoul, 14 in Gyeonggi, and 17 in Incheon. Mayor Park said, "Most of the confirmed cases are employees working on the 11th floor, but there are also employees on other floors," adding, "During the night, two employees working on the 9th and 10th floors residing in Incheon were also confirmed."
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has so far tested 207 employees of the ACE Insurance call center on the 11th floor of the Korea Building, 553 call center employees on the 7th to 9th floors, and about 200 residents of officetels on the 13th to 19th floors.
Mayor Park said, "This cluster infection case, the largest in the Seoul area, is a critical issue that will determine whether the further spread of COVID-19 can be prevented or not," and added, "We have decided to designate the Korea Building and its surrounding area as a Special Infectious Disease Support Zone at the Seoul city level to concentrate human and material support and resolve the issue early."
Seoul city also plans to conduct a full investigation by locating all visitors to the Korea Building to confirm infection routes, as there is concern about community infection caused by contacts.
Mayor Park said, "We need information on citizens who visited the Korea Building from February 28, when the risk of infection was high," and added, "We have requested communication access records of nearby visitors from the National Police Agency and will secure the list as soon as possible to conduct a full investigation."
