Genesis G90 Selected as the 'Safest Vehicle' in the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Genesis announced on the 12th that its G90 was selected as a ‘Top Safety Pick Plus,’ the highest safety rating awarded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the U.S., in the crash evaluation results announced on the 6th (local time).
With this, the Genesis brand earned the honor of having its entire sedan lineup recognized as the safest vehicles, following the G70 and G80 receiving the Top Safety Pick Plus rating in February, now including the G90.
IIHS, a nonprofit organization established in 1959, annually evaluates and publishes comprehensive results on the crashworthiness and crash prevention performance of hundreds of vehicles released each year.
The highest safety rating, Top Safety Pick Plus, is awarded to vehicles that receive the highest rating of “Good” in all six crash safety categories: driver-side small overlap, passenger-side small overlap, front crash, side crash, roof strength, and head restraint. Additionally, vehicles must earn at least an advanced rating in front crash prevention tests (vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian) and at least a “Acceptable” rating in headlight evaluations.
The ‘Full LED Headlamps,’ which Genesis equips as standard on all trims of the G90, received the highest rating of “Good” in the headlight evaluation. Genesis also equipped the G90 with a front crash prevention system designed to detect both vehicles and pedestrians as standard.
In the front crash prevention system tests, the G90 earned the highest rating of “Superior” by avoiding collisions in vehicle-to-vehicle crash scenarios at speeds of 12 mph (19.3 km/h) and 25 mph (40.2 km/h). In vehicle-to-pedestrian crash scenarios, it avoided collisions at low speeds and significantly reduced speed at high speeds, earning an advanced rating.
