[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City has launched a full-scale survey and work environment improvement for call centers in the region to prevent similar cases related to the group infection of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that occurred at a call center in Guro-gu, Seoul.
According to the city on the 12th, 25 call centers with five or more regular employees were identified in Incheon in the first phase.
The city sent official letters to these call centers recommending strict compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines and active participation in government policies such as social distancing, encouraging improvements in work systems including telecommuting and shift work.
Additionally, the city plans to strengthen on-site inspections and disinfection of call centers in cooperation with local district and county offices, and to advise insurance-related companies to refrain from holding group training sessions for employees.
Along with this, the city sent an official letter to the Ministry of Employment and Labor to secure additional call centers located in Incheon based on workplaces registered for employment insurance, and plans to implement preventive measures to reduce infection risks.
Mayor Park Namchun visited the 120 Michuhol Call Center located in Michuhol Tower in Songdo International City, which is operated by the city, to directly check the work environment the day before.
At the site, Mayor Park said, "Since call centers are environments where infections can easily spread, we take this very seriously. I ask workers to thoroughly practice personal hygiene and take sufficient rest to ensure full prevention of COVID-19."
