Rural Development Administration Discusses Measures to Revitalize Rural Economy via Video Conference
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] On the 11th, the Rural Development Administration held a video conference with directors of agricultural technology centers nationwide in the main office's video conference room. This video meeting was organized to discuss measures to address gaps in farming education and on-site technical support due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to revitalize the rural economy.
Since the 4th, the Rural Development Administration has switched to an emergency work system to respond to COVID-19 and is operating a disaster countermeasure situation room. In cooperation with local rural development institutions, it is strengthening the operation of a non-face-to-face guidance project system until the COVID-19 situation ends, and plans to mobilize all agricultural technology dissemination capabilities to resolve difficulties in the farming field.
Especially ahead of the full-scale farming season, information on key technologies such as major farming tasks, pest and disease control, growth management tips, and agricultural workers' health management is being provided through the Rural Development Administration's Nongsaro website and social networking services (SNS). On this day, the head of the Rural Development Administration checked each institution's COVID-19 response status and rural economy revitalization measures, then listened to participants' opinions on efficient rural guidance and technology dissemination plans suitable for the current situation. He said, "I hope all the institution's capabilities will be gathered to minimize the damage to farmers and the agricultural sector suffering from the spread of COVID-19 and to support stable farming activities."

On the 6th, the Rural Development Administration also held a video conference with the director of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Technology Center and the head of the Daegu Agricultural Technology Center to check the status of farming support activities in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions. The Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions continue communication with farmers through Gyeongbuk Agricultural Broadcasting and online channels, and farming support activities such as microorganism distribution and agricultural machinery rental are being handled non-face-to-face. Due to decreased consumption of minari in Daegu, where harvesting is currently underway, farmers are facing difficulties, so the Rural Development Administration is supporting market expansion by purchasing 800kg of Daegu minari and providing it as a meal menu in the in-house cafeteria.
