"Ensuring Thorough Nuclear Power Plant Safety Operations Including Inspection of Maintenance Personnel Management Measures"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on the 11th that it will operate an emergency response center for maintenance in preparation for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the same day, KHNP held a 'Nuclear Maintenance Partner Meeting' at the Nuclear Power Plant Workforce Training Center in Gampo-eup, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where it made this announcement.
The meeting was attended by KHNP President Jeong Jae-hoon, as well as executives from nine maintenance partner companies including KEPCO KPS, Susan ENS, Iljin Power, and Geumhwa PSC.
In the event of an emergency, the headquarters will operate an emergency response center led by the head of the Equipment Technology Department, and business sites will operate centers led by the plant managers to ensure the safe operation of nuclear power plants by managing maintenance personnel accordingly.
Additionally, on the 9th anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear accident, a safety resolution was announced to raise awareness about nuclear safety.
The meeting also discussed ways to activate the use of the Nuclear Power Plant Workforce Training Center.
The Nuclear Power Plant Workforce Training Center was established in June last year through contributions from the government, local governments, and KHNP. It was founded to strengthen on-site technical capabilities and cultivate professionals through practical, hands-on nuclear industry education.
According to KHNP, 55 people graduated in the first year of establishment, and 85% of them secured employment.
