COVID-19 Self-Diagnosis App Developed by Military Medical Officer
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] An active military medical officer has attracted attention by developing an application (app) that can not only perform self-diagnosis for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) but also assess the severity of confirmed patients. The protagonist is Captain Heo Jun-nyeong of the Defense Medical Information System (DEMIS) Performance Improvement TF Team, affiliated with the Armed Forces Medical Command.
The app developed by Captain Heo is called 'COVID-19 Checkup,' which allows users to self-assess whether they need to undergo a COVID-19 test. When symptoms are suspected, users can check their symptom items in the app, which then informs them whether they should receive a detailed examination at a screening clinic or public health center.
Captain Heo also developed the 'COVID-19 Patient Severity Classification App.' This app has already been approved and is currently available for free to anyone. He said, "I developed the severity classification app overnight in just one day, and the 'COVID-19 Checkup' app took three days of work with consultations from acquaintances due to the many items to check."
While attending medical school, Captain Heo created an app called 'Study Mate' for fellow students, which ranked second overall in the App Store sales charts at the time. In 2012, he also developed the 'Stroke 119' app, which quickly informs nearby emergency rooms to stroke patients for whom golden time is critical.
