At the meeting, attended by Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol, Yoon Jong-il, President of the Dongdaemun-gu Pharmacists Association, Vice Presidents No Ok-ran and Song Gwang-ok, and the Director of Dongdaemun-gu Public Health Center, the current status was checked to ensure smooth distribution of public masks at 195 pharmacies in Dongdaemun-gu starting from the 9th.
In particular, the Pharmacists Association requested its members to pay special attention to avoid conflicts with customers, as all citizens are anxious due to COVID-19.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “We will do our best to support pharmacies in the district to ensure there are no disruptions in supplying public masks,” and added, “We ask the Pharmacists Association to minimize inconvenience to residents.”
The district is conducting crackdowns on unfair trade practices such as price gouging and hoarding of masks and hand sanitizers.
A district official said, “If there are any cases of damage, we urge active reporting through the reporting centers (☎2640-5057·5080·5087), the Consumer Counseling Center (1372), and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety website (www.mfds.go.kr).”
Public masks can be purchased at pharmacies in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. You can search for pharmacies open on holidays on the Holiday Pharmacy website (www.pharm114.or.kr), check sales status by phone, and then visit the pharmacy.
Public masks can be purchased twice per person per week. From Monday to Friday, purchases are based on the last digit of the birth year, and on weekends, masks can be purchased regardless of birth year if masks were not bought during the week. (Bringing an ID such as a resident registration card, driver’s license, or passport is mandatory when purchasing.)
On Monday, those whose birth year ends with 1 or 6 can purchase masks; on Tuesday, those ending with 2 or 7; Wednesday, 3 or 8; Thursday, 4 or 9; and Friday, 5 or 0.

Proxy purchases are also allowed. Eligible proxy buyers include children under 10 years old (born in 2010 or later), seniors aged 80 or older (born in 1940 or earlier), long-term care benefit recipients, and persons with disabilities. The proxy buyer must be a cohabitant listed on the resident registration of the child or senior. Cohabitants can purchase masks on the 5-day schedule day corresponding to the last digit of the birth year of the child or senior. For example, a parent born in 1981 with a child born in 2010 can buy their own mask on Monday and buy the child’s mask on Friday. When purchasing by proxy, the buyer must present their own ID, a resident registration certificate (with full resident number), a disability welfare card (disability registration), or proof documents for long-term care patients.
